Beauty

“Beauty feeds the hungry soul.” Piero Ferrucci, author of Beauty and the Soul: The Extraordinary Power of Every Day Beauty to Heal Your Life

I just returned from my first time in Costa Rica!  The “Rich Coast” (translated from Spanish) enriched my soul with majestic waterfalls, whimsical Blue Morpho butterflies and dramatic golden sunsets.  Leonardo da Vinci wrote that nature is the teacher of teachers. These beautiful forms evoke emotions in us and teach us intelligent harmony. It is a way of being that enters us and propagates in our inner world infusing us with beauty.

Walking on suspended bridges above the jungle canopy I open myself to these beautiful forms.  What can you teach me about life, about my life? I am your student. Piero Ferrucci writes about how our experiences enter us and do not stay still, but are processed in the unconscious. They end up as part of our personal history, ultimately changing us. But some more meaningful, among them those of beauty, touch a deeper vein in us and thus have immense potential. We are alive in an intelligent universe teeming with creativity.

Standing in the midst of this verdant wilderness sanctuary, ordinary life back home feels distant. I not only desire to have feelings of joy and delight, but also a sense of a deeper knowing. Have years of mistaken habits and social conditioning caused me to forget my true nature? I wonder am I beauty when I make judgements?  Am I beauty when I fail; when my skin sags from age; when I hurt someone including myself? Am I beauty when past wounds silence my voice and I numb out.

The breeze kisses my flushed face.

You have been busy trying to live life. Be life. And it is a journey of dark and light. Unforeseen obstacles and failures strengthen you, bringing you to trust your inner resources that evolve your beauty.  Allow imperfection, hurt and heartbreak to give you the gift of the soulful eye. Know your wounds are sacred. You act from fear, from survival. Forgive yourself. I do.  Hear the ancient songs of unconditional love and let them hold you in their arms for you are a tender beauty. Everyone is.

Intention: Tend to your inner flame. Allow beauty to show you the way.

For the Navajo the creation of beauty and the embodiment of oneself in beauty are the highest achievement and the destiny of each human being.
