See you in the Sky

Are you like some people that cringe when a life coach suggests how much better your life would be if you woke up every morning and said what you are grateful for?  The reason I mention this is because I’ve had a least one conversation with someone who told me that it feels fake unless she really means it. I wondered, how can I write this piece on thanks giving from a more genuine perspective?

This past August my 87 year old father passed. I tell you this because I’ve been writing a family memoir and have entitled it See you the Sky. Over the years my dad and I talked about how he would be waiting for my sister and I in the sky when he died. A few days ago I was diligently typing on the computer trying to meet a deadline for my draft manuscript when my dog came over and nudged me to take her for a walk.  As we strolled out into the warm autumn day I just happened to look up and noticed the billowing white cloud formations in the deep blue sky. Suddenly this HUGE sense of gratitude and pure joy overtook me. I felt like the loving sky broke me open and went inside of me.  As I stood there communing with the sky it wasn’t me saying what I was grateful for but rather the sky was telling me what it was grateful for. I didn’t have to do anything except receive its message.

Intention: Go outside. Look up at the sky and let it tell you how it feels to be grateful.
